Trevor L. Rusin

Trevor Rusin brings a strong background in environmental, criminal and civil litigation. He serves as the city attorney for the City of Lomita and the interim city attorney in Malibu and Palos Verdes estates, and represents a number of other cities in litigation and advisory matters. Before joining Best Best & Krieger LLP, he was an attorney at Jenkins & Hogin LLP.
 
Trevor’s practice emphasizes all aspects of governmental law, including the Coastal Act, Brown Act, Public Records Act, environmental law, planning and zoning law and code enforcement issues. He has particular experience in advising coastal cities and represents his clients in court, at public meetings and in negotiating complex agreements and transactions.
 
Earlier in his career, Trevor served as a federal prosecutor for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California, where he successfully prosecuted a variety of criminal actions relating to, among other things, fraud, environmental crimes, narcotics, armed robbery and terrorist threats. Before that, Trevor was a member of the litigation group at the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins, LLP, where his practice focused on white collar crime, land use and complex litigation.
 
He speaks regularly on issues of interest to local government officials, including land use law, the Brown Act and short-term rentals.
