BBK’s Ana Schwab Appears in Reuters and Westlaw Today on the New Superfund Designation for Forever Chemicals
After 80 Years of Use, PFAS Now Subject to Hazardous Designation
On May 24, 2024, Best Best & Krieger LLP (BBK) Director of Government Affairs and Of Counsel Ana D. Schwab was published on Reuters and Westlaw Today, where she discusses recent EPA actions to address forever chemicals, including the agency’s final rule designating those chemicals as hazardous substances under Superfund.
Schwab notes, “As with any problem, the first step to a solution is to begin to tackle it. The EPA’s actions are certainly those first steps.” While the EPA’s actions are encouraging, addressing the release, cleanup and responsibility for forever chemicals, the United States faces considerable challenges posed by the chemicals’ widespread use. Schwab continues, “So long as consumer products, military and medical equipment, electronics, furniture, firefighting foam, and much more are permitted to have PFAS chains incorporated within them, PFAS contamination will continue.”
