Best Best & Krieger Announces 2023 Arthur L. Littleworth Diversity Scholarship Winner
Scholarship Presented to California State University Freshman at Association of California Water Agencies 2023 Spring Conference
Best Best & Krieger LLP, in partnership with the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), selected Mallory Sutherland, an agricultural business student at California State University, Fresno, as the recipient of the 2023 Arthur L. Littleworth Best Best & Krieger Diversity Scholarship. Now in its second year, this annual program was established in honor of the late Art Littleworth, a longtime BB&K partner, water law and policy visionary, and respected civil rights advocate. BB&K Special Districts Partner and Recruiting Committee Chair Lutfi Kharuf presented the scholarship to Sutherland at ACWA’s Spring Conference on May 10.
“I’m privileged to once again be a part of this special scholarship, which honors the legacy of the late Art Littleworth and the impact he had on water law. Mallory’s hard work and dedication to the environment makes her the perfect recipient of this scholarship. We are excited to see how she advances in her career and makes a difference in the world of water,” said Kharuf.
Sutherland, a freshman at California State University, Fresno, is a member of the Sustainability club, is actively involved as an Agricultural Ambassador, and is a member of the Kesem and Agricultural Business clubs. She is also a member of the Smittcamp Family Honors College.
Through the Arthur L. Littleworth Best Best & Krieger Diversity Scholarship, BB&K and ACWA annually award one $10,000 scholarship, disbursed evenly over a four-year period, to a qualified undergraduate student of diverse or of an underrepresented background who, by demonstrating a passion for and career trajectory in water law, and commitment to diversity and inclusion, will bolster public administration in California. The recipient also receives mentorship opportunities with BB&K and an invitation to attend ACWA’s annual Spring Conference.
