Eric Garner, Shawn Hagerty and Charity Schiller Named to Guide
Best Best & Krieger LLP is proud to announce Partners Eric Garner, Shawn Hagerty and Charity Schiller have been named to the third edition of “The Lawdragon Green 500: The 2024 Leaders in Environmental Law” guide. This prestigious guide recognizes a collection of environmental lawyers ranging from animal advocates, to sustainable finance leaders, specialists in greenwashing claims and regulatory gurus who help businesses navigate environmental regulations to successfully develop projects.
Managing Partner Eric Garner, who was recognized in the guide for water law, practices water rights and supply law. Garner works on surface and groundwater issues throughout California, and for the past two decades, has worked extensively on groundwater matters. Garner, who co-authored “California Water,” “California Water II” and “California Water Third Edition,” is an adjunct law professor at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, and has served as the firm’s managing partner since 2005.
Partner Shawn Hagerty, recognized in the guide for environmental and natural resource law with a focus on water, works with public agencies in California and throughout the United States to solve complex legal problems, with an emphasis on federal and state water quality and water supply laws. Serving as both general and special counsel to public agencies for many years, Hagerty has a deep understanding of the best practices, trends and approaches necessary to obtain permits for, and successfully implement, small and large-scale water quality and water supply projects.
Furthermore, Hagerty’s experience as a city attorney, has allowed him to focus his practice on land use and water.
Partner Charity Schiller, recognized for infrastructure, land use and CEQA in the guide, helps public and private clients negotiate the maze of laws that apply to infrastructure and private development projects, so that those projects can be entitled and built. Specifically, Schiller assists clients with all aspects of the California Environmental Quality Act, the National Environmental Policy Act and related environmental laws. She has extensive experience with the preparation and adoption of environmental impact reports, environmental impact statements, negative declarations, addenda, exemptions and other environmental documents.
