Municipalities are Being Crushed by the Weight of Records Requests
On February 27, 2023, Best Best & Krieger Partner and Director of PRA Services and E-Discovery Counsel Christine Wood was published in the Daily Journal, in which she discussed how requests for public records are choking some agencies and costing taxpayers billions of dollars.
In her article, Wood, who focuses on public and electronic records and public agency transparency, discussed PRA reform and takes a look beyond the rare, non-compliant public agency.
“In the past five years, the PRA has been modified to increase transparency — mostly in regards to law enforcement records – but there has been little effort to provide agencies a modicum of relief,” she wrote. “While those are necessary changes, the unbearable drain on public agencies begs for additional reform.”
