Through its Legal Advocacy program, the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) supports local governments by filing approximately 40 amicus briefs each year in state supreme courts, federal appeals courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. This is done either independently, in partnership with the Local Government Legal Center or alongside other national organizations.
This work is made possible by appellate attorneys across the country who volunteer their time to write these briefs. In recognition of their contributions, IMLA honors select attorneys annually with its Amicus Awards. IMLA relies on the time and skill of appellate lawyers across the country who volunteer to write amicus briefs in support of local governments. Each year, IMLA recognizes their contributions through its Amicus Awards.
