BBK Partners Andre Monette and Gerard Lederer Honored by the International Municipal Lawyers Association
Awards Presented During IMLA’s 2024 Annual Conference
BBK congratulates Municipal Law Partners Andre Monette and Gerard Lederer, who were honored by the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) during the organization’s annual conference in Orlando, Florida.
Andre Monette received the IMLA President’s Award, which was created in 2001 by IMLA’s board of directors. Monette was recognized for his achievements and contributions to the organization throughout 2024. Recipients are selected by IMLA’s president, with the advice and counsel of its board of directors.
Monette, managing partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, and a member of the firm’s Municipal, Government Affairs and Environmental Law & Natural Resources practice groups, works extensively with water districts, cities, counties and agricultural interests, and other private entities on matters involving the Federal Clean Water Act and its state law analogues. He also works with public agencies and farmers on matters involving water rights, water supply and water quality, as well as investors interested in water projects.
Gerard “Gerry” Lederer received IMLA’s Burk E. (Buck) Delventhal Legal Advocacy Award, which honors the life and legacy of Buck Delventhal, a deputy city attorney for the City and County of San Francisco from 1970 to 2019. The award “recognizes the work of an attorney in legal advocacy and education who has demonstrated superior professional skills in advancing the interests of clients and local government.” Lederer has been recognized for his litigation and legislative work, and educational efforts, advancing the health, safety, and welfare of the communities he serves.
Lederer, a partner and member of the firm’s Municipal and Telecom practice groups has served as Washington legislative counsel to a number of local governments and agencies, including as lead advocate for local governments on infrastructure issues and as general counsel of the United States Conference of Mayors. He has also served as executive director of advocacy and research advancement for the Building Owners and Managers Association, International and executive director of government affairs for the United States Telephone Association. Prior to his career in Washington, he served as the chief deputy city commissioner for the City of Philadelphia.
