San Diego Business Journal Recognizes Partner Paula de Sousa as a Woman of Influence in Law 2023
Annual Award Celebrates Female Trailblazers in Law
The San Diego Business Journal has selected Best Best & Krieger LLP Partner Paula de Sousa as a Woman of Influence in Law 2023. The publication annually recognizes the careers and accomplishments of female trailblazers in law within the San Diego business community. The Women of Influence in Law 2023 list and a profile of de Sousa was published in the June 26 issue of the San Diego Business Journal honoring 93 women from the private and public sectors for their contributions to the field of law and commitment to the community.
A member of BBK’s Special Districts practice group and general counsel to public agencies, de Sousa’s practice incorporates most areas of public agency representation to include public works construction and purchasing issues, real property issues, and the Cortese-Knox-Hertzberg Local Government Reorganization Act of 2000. As general counsel to the California Association of Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) of San Bernardino County, assistant general counsel to the Orange County LAFCO and the California Association of LAFCOs, de Sousa advises on and assists in the drafting of legislation on behalf of the organization that represents, educates and supports all 58 of the state’s LAFCOs. She also provides special counsel services to public agencies throughout California and is general counsel to numerous other public agencies including the Padre Dam Municipal Water District, Santa Fe Irrigation District, Sweetwater Authority, Fallbrook Public Utility District and Valley Center Municipal Water District.
Active in the San Diego community, de Sousa serves as a member of various professional groups to include the San Diego County Bar Association, the Lawyers Club, and special district industry organizations such as the California Special Districts Association (CSDA). She is a former board member of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, San Diego Affiliate and currently serves as an appointed member of the San Diego Komen Leadership Council. She is also a member of the “MORE THAN PINK Walk” Committee, helping organize Komen’s annual fundraising event in San Diego.
