The Journey of the Asian American Lawyer: An Interview with BB&K Attorney Nowland Hong [VIDEO]
Stories and Voices from L.A. Chinatown
During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May, Best Best & Krieger LLP explored the history of Asian American culture in Southern California and how the practice of law is impacted by the Asian American experience.
We hosted a conversation between BB&K attorneys Bryan Byun and Nowland Hong, whose father was the first Chinese American lawyer in California, that offers a glimpse into the past by exploring Nowland’s stories of community, exclusion and resilience growing up amid L.A.’s New Chinatown.
Nowland’s reflections and the Hong family’s historic collection are included in "Stories and Voices from L.A. Chinatown," a collaboration bringing the Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens, the Library Foundation of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Public Library archives to life.
